NCSS Ten Thematic Strands:
I. Culture: Anthropology studies humans and their relationships with the environment.
II. Time, Continuity, and Change: Students will understand history as a sequence of people and events. They will comprehend how the world has changed and how it could evolve.
III. People, Places, and Environment: Geography is the study of the why of the where. It is the interconnectedness between our surroundings and us.
IV. Individual Development and Identity: Using psychology to understand how and why culture, groups, and institutions shape personal identity.
V. Individuals, Groups, and Institutions: In sociology, students will understand how and why institutions are formed and how they influence the individual. The students will grapple with why individuals partake in groups and institutions.
VI. Power, Authority, and Governance: Is the political control or shared power within a nation. TBD This can include economic decisions within a society.
VII. Production, Distribution, and Consumption: Social Studies will examine economic structures. Students need to comprehend the economic realities associated with goods and services.
VIII. Science, Technology, and Society: In order to preserve our way of life in a technological world, we must learn about the relationships between technology and society. Students will wrestle with how we can manage scientific innovations.
IX. Global Connections: Understanding, relating, and critically thinking about the interdependency and interlinking global societies. Done through analyzing patterns and relationships within and among world societies.
X. Civic Ideas and Practices: Civics is the study of knowing how to contribute as a citizen. As well as seeing how we all fit together to produce great outcomes.
