4' plywood pontoons.--I am making Sept/Oct 2012---I was looking for "wood flour" as a filler for the epoxy. I asked one of my clients whose dad owns a boat-building/repair business. Her dad Mark Dahl 360.929-8225 gave me some advice. You can use just about anything for epoxy filler, since it totally encapsulates the material. Get the fine sawdust. Epoxy is really tough, but doesn't handle UV well, so it has to be covered by s/t (paint, varnish, polyeurathane, etc). It finishes very shiny/slick, so HAS to be sanded (80grit) so there is no shine. Use Oil-Based primer & paint. Any oil-based exterior paint will work---primer+paint. Ace Hardware has a brand RustStop for metal which works well on e/t. 2-3 thin coats. Because the surface <>porous, it doesn't take much paint (buy a pint). If the paint gets scratched off on the rocks, just touch up once in a while. The epoxy is tough & will handle the scrapes w/o damage.
