MQuiton---
4.23/11--I built one at BpRipley's for the Lincoln Radio Check & to keep there for emergencies. It was two 2" dowels, 13 ft each, fastened together with 2 hose clamps, & an 8ft bamboo on top, with the slimJim velcro-fastened to it. Total height of top of antenna was about 32ft. It was just leaned up against the side of his house, next to his chimney. It picked up all hams who checked in really clear. We didn't get a test from some of the holes, but it seemed better than without the antenna.
Here, I have it strapped to a dowel, to raise up on top of a mast. It is on the wooden dowell so that the metal from the mast doesn't interfere with the signal pattern.
5/1/11--We did a temporary installation on MQuiton house in about an hour. Total cost was about $55. A wooden dowel lashed to a 9' scrap of 3/4' EMT (steel electrical conduit) with hose clamps & wired it to two screws under the overhang to hold it in place. The base was wedged in a tire. Mt will do a more permanent installation, strapping the pole to his chimney. Our test on her handie-talkie increased the signal to Costco area by 3-4 bars. We were able to listen to people on a repeater in Woodinville, & were able to ping the repeater, but were unable to get them to hear us. Mounting it on the chimney should raise it about 10ft higher than it is now. She came in very clear on the net tonight.
