FGSO First Thursday

Thursday, November 6th

Monthly meeting and happy hour!!

Monthly Meeting

Thursday, November 6th, 4pm

Newins-Ziegler Hall, 3rd floor lounge (room 377)

Why you should come to the meeting:

1) to help make decisions on the graduate student lounge!

We have been asked by the department to come up with a plan for how to best utilize the "faculty lounge" on the 3rd floor as a lounge for graduate students. We want to hear from all graduate students about how to use this space. Some ideas for what to include:

  • Coffee maker - fresh brewed coffee daily, just donate some change to purchase the beans
  • Bulletin board for relevant flyers and announcements
  • White board to use for group meetings

So think about how you would want to use a communal space. A nap between classes? Meeting with other students for projects? Meeting with undergraduates as a TA? Coffee time with some friends? Killing time between classes/meetings (especially for those without an office in the building!)?

>>>>> read this! If you cannot come to the meeting, we would still like your input. Please give us your ideas with this link.

2) to be eligible for FGSO service scholarship!

We've raised enough money through our fundraising that we are offering scholarships to FRC graduate students. Last month, we decided on how the scholarship is to be awarded and the criteria. FGSO will award $50 service scholarships during the Spring Celebration in April 2015. How do you become eligible for a scholarship? Each time you come to a FGSO meeting or participate in an event, your name will be entered into a drawing. In April, those who have their name randomly drawn will receive the scholarship in COLD HARD CASH. More involvement in FGSO = better chances of winning! We will start collecting names in November, so be sure to come to our meeting!

3) As always, there will be free pizza at the meeting!
