PASTORS and TEACHERS
With support of the Danish Museum of Schools, Mr. S. Trøst-Hansen began in 1917 to collect photos from each Danish parish. The photos were of the ministers and teachers, "as far back as pictures were available" as well of the church and school. He made from these photos a series of "Sognekort" or Parish Cards with the pictures of buildings and people neatly arranged for each parish.
He was not able to finish his project, but did complete 853 cards of the 2000 existing parishes. When he started the project, Southern Jutland was still in German hands, lost by the war of 1864, and Trøst-Hansen did not get to cover Copenhagen. So none of these areas are included, but do enjoy the remaining 853 cards.
The cards are located in the Aarhus University Library and can be viewed using the URL http://library.au.dk/materialer/saersamlinger/sognekort/
Since the site is in Danish here a few words on how to use the site:
The collection is divided according to the counties as they were used up until 1970 - just as you know it from ArkivalierOnline.
When you open the URL you see the first example of a Sognekort. To see the cards of your interest, you need to scroll down until in the left side you find the word "Sognekort". It is in bold font. Below "Sognekort" you will first find "Alfabetisk oversigt over sogne", in English: "Alphabetical oveview of the parishes", then the names of each county, of which there are cards. If you do not know the parish, then use the alphabetical index, else click on the ounty of your choice. A list of parishes will appear, and hopefully Mr. Trøst-Hansen covered your parish. I looked in Præstø County for Allerslev, Bårse, and Kalvehave and had luck with the two latter ones. That is two out of thee and I consider that pretty good.
