"Rally organizer Joey Gibson said in a video posted to Facebook on Monday that the group planned to march from Sproul Plaza to an unidentified location where participants will give speeches.
At first, police in riot gear outnumbered the people who showed up. Even more unusual was the planned sit down talk in the so called empathy tent between opposing sides. For the most part that was what happened as Gibson spoke with an opposing activist: a controlled dialogue
But it was the unruly crowd shouting outside the tent that kept things tense."

Last week Attorney General Jeff Sessions braved protesters at Georgetown Law Center, where he promised to intervene in campus free-speech cases and urged students and universities to “stand up against those who would silence free expression by violence or other means.” The targets of suppression have ways to hold colleges and rioters to account using civil-rights statutes and common-law torts."

Fights and arguments broke out as Gibson fielded questions from the crowd. Workers in the empathy tent encouraged peaceful resolution as protesters and counterprotesters pushed, elbowed and shouted at one another. “Dialogue, listening, dialogue, empathy,” urged one worker."

The motive of Berkeley’s tent folk was to provide a calm place to unwind from the chaos and dissension surrounding that academic island of reason. The tent may originally have been pitched by conservative students at the liberal institution, but one student took advantage of its freedom of speech to advocate the virtues of meditation and the Occupy Wall Street movement."

"Protesters disrupted the library and also Wheeler Hall; the local Bank of America kept its ATM machines boarded up for much of the week (the “Antifa” folks had smashed them with sledgehammers back in February), and, perhaps most fitting, there were arrests after a scuffle at the plainly mis-named “Empathy Tent.” In other words, the left did to the campus exactly what they accused Milo of wanting to do. It’s almost enough to make you want to take a knee. Kneel before Zod!"
