Empathy Tent: Protect Affordable Care:
Empathy Circles with Congressional Representatives
We set up the #EmpathyTent with #SidewalkTalk in Berkeley at a town hall on the Affordable Health Care Act and offered listening and some empathy circle training.
Listened to a family where the daughter had a preexisting condition and she talked about all the difficulties in the healthcare system. Afterwards they were so grateful that someone had heard them and they thanked me for listening.
We also did an empathy circle training. It takes a bit to get used to the process, but people start learning and practicing to listen more deeply. It's also something they can take with them to do with their family, friends, etc
