Introduction

The City of Elizabeth Pipe Band was established in 1965 and is a Scottish pipe band based in the northern Adelaide suburb of Elizabeth. Our membership comes from far and wide with most members from the Elizabeth/Salisbury/Gawler area with some as widely flung as the Adelaide Hills, Clare and Barossa Valleys.

The band is quite active and participates in about 18 entertainment and competition events a year. In the past the band has competed with distinction both locally and interstate, winning many prizes, including the State Championship several times in Grade III and Grade II.

The band wears the Royal Stewart tartan.

Membership

Membership of the band is open to everyone who is willing to devote the time and effort to contribute to the band. Some however may find participation difficult due to the weight and size of some of the instruments and the marching nature of many of our activities.

Tuition

The band has always placed great emphasis on tutoring and is proud to have produced many fine musicians over the years. In particular, emphasis is placed on encouraging youth involvement in music. No prior musical knowledge is required to join and the band will provide tuition for free but you must be prepared to attend tuition regularly and devote time for regular practice at home.

Currently we have a number of students learning to play the bagpipes and drums. If the bagpipes appeal to you, please contact our Pipe Major who can provide details of initial equipment required (practice chanter and tutor book).  The band also provides tuition in side, tenor and bass drumming, please contact our Drum Sergeant for details of equipment required.

Costs

Participating in a pipe band is a fairly inexpensive hobby as the band provides all uniforms and drums where required for playing members. Shoes are provided by the member. Pipers are responsible for purchasing their own instruments. Adults pay a quarterly subscription of $30.

Entertainment, Parades and Competition

The band plays at many functions over the year ranging from large events such as the Christmas pageant and ANZAC day parade to small functions such as weddings and parties.

We are also a competitive band and endeavour to compete at all scheduled competitions in South Australia and occasionally interstate.

Where to find us

The band practices at the Revival Church Hall, Appleshaw Rd, Elizabeth Vale.

Band practice is held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 10:00 PM.
