Adelaide Highland Games - 1981

This was our first chance to be judged by an overseas piping judge - Jimmy McIntosh, and he gave us first place by quite a margin. I spoke to him after the event, and he reckons we were playing to an excellent Grade III standard.

This was the first time that the band had to march into a circle for the recently introduced "Medley" event.

Our Pipers:

Angus Massie (sen), Alan Dodds, Angus Massie (jun), Peter Cameron, Stewart Kearney, Liam Craig, Craig McAinsh, Andrew Saj, Peter Whitehead, Andrew MacArthur.

Our Drummers:

Sides - Matthew Fielder, Tony Krelle, Stephen Dunn. Bass - Michael Dunn, Robert Cottnam, Marshal Hamon (medley). Drum Major - Marshal Hamon.

Our tunes:

Quickstep - Major MacLennan.

Selection - Drunken Piper.

Medley - Piper O' Dundee, Paddy's Leather Breeches, Come by the Hills, The Waterhole, Maggie Duncan, O'er the Bows to Ballindalloch, Miss Girdle, De'il Amang the Tailors, Shoals of Herring.

Results:

Quickstep and Selection - Second place overall in Grade III.

Medley - First in Grade III.

We were first in piping in all three events.
