The City of Elizabeth Council presented the band with a very fine mace, specially imported from Scotland, as a mark of esteem for the members' efforts on the local scene.
The presentation was made by the Mayor, Mrs. Joyce Eastland, in the pleasant surroundings of Windsor Green, in the Elizabeth Town Centre. The Drum Major, Sam Campbell, accepted the gift, and the band played before and after the ceremony. The event was not publicised in advance, and the audience was mainly interested passers-by.
The Mayor was a staunch supporter of the band and accompanied us to the Australian Championships in Melbourne the following year (1974).
