Burra Copper Festival -1983

The band played at this event several times over the years. Burra is a pleasant little town, with its origins and history closely linked to the copper mines which once blossomed in the region. The copper is now exchausted, but several miners' cottages have been upgraded as bed and breakfast accommodation, and the town pins its hopes more on tourism. The Copper Festival is a biennial affair, and involves a street parade followed by arena events, stalls etc. on the oval. There was always a large and enthusiastic audience. The band families saw this as a good day out, even though the trip by car was fairly lengthy.

And another shot of Jim and his newly decorated drum.

A great view of the front rank of pipers.
