City of Elizabeth Pipe Band Reunion - 20th May 2000

The Reunion, organised by ex-members Marshall Hamon and Stewart Kearney, took place in the Officers' Mess at the RAAF Base Edinburgh. By any measure it was a memorable and enjoyable event, with ex members from as far back as the 1960's attending.

An unforeseen spin-off was a renewed enthusiasm by several of the ex members to try to revitalise the band with a view to bringing it back to some semblance of its former viability. Consequently, a small group started the ball rolling again with a weekly practice commencing in June 2000, at the Playford Music Centre, Leonard Street, Elizabeth Park.

Jim was Pipe Major of the band in the early 1970's, and has

concentrated his piping efforts over the past 30 years as a

stalwart of the R.U. Brown Piobaireachd Society in Adelaide.

He is seen here with Mrs Whitehead (left) and his wife Moira.

Bill and Bob were pipers in our band in the late 1960's and

early 1970's. They have both been active bandsmen in the

Port Noarlunga Pipe Band since that time. They are seen

here with their better halves.

Alan and Stewart came to the band as youngsters and turned

out to be excellent pipers. They were both dedicated bandsmen

and the best of friends. Alan was a soloist of some distinction

and also took on the responsibility of Pipe Sergeant for some

years. Also in the picture is Alan's wife Dianne.

Craig came to the band as a young boy to learn the pipes, and

proved to be a gifted musician and a loyal bandsman for many

years. He later joined the Adelaide University Pipe Band where

he introduced innovative items to the reportoire using keyboards

and other instruments. He is seen here with Pauline Craig.

Old Angus took on the Pipe Major's mantle circa 1975, and

had the privilege of influencing a whole swag of quite brilliant

young talent in their piping careers over the next twenty or so

years. His wife Flora was a constant and loyal supporter of

the band.

Marshal came to our group to learn the tenor drum, and

successfully took the bass drum and eventually the role of

Drum Major in his stride. A popular and hard working bandsman.

Peter came as an adult to learn piping and turned out to be a

real asset to the pipe corps and to the administrative side of

the band as well, in the role of Secretary.

Malcolm came as a youngster to the band, and finally left

to take up a teaching position in Invercargill, New Zealand,

where he spent 10 years. While there he played for the

Invercargill Pipe Band in Grade One, and on his return to take

up a position with Scotch College Adelaide, he undertook the management of the school pipe band as part of his duties.

Also in the picture is Helen Kilpatrick and Helen Jones.

Angus has been a constant member of the band since boyhood -

a period of nearly thirty years. He has served with distinction as

piper, tutor and Treasurer. Also in the picture is Dianne Dodds.

Liam came to the band as a young learner and gave sterling

service to the group for many years through to manhood. A talented

piper and a loyal bandsman. Also in the picture is Jane Kearney.

Simon started to learn the pipes with us when he was very

young indeed, and has the distinction of being able to play

quite an extensive repertoire on the practice chanter before his

fingers were big enough to fit on the actual bagpipe !! A quiet,

dedicated and talented player. Also in the picture are Simon's

parents, Frank and Sheila - both very loyal supporters of the

band for many years.

Andrew also came to the band as a young learner and served

for many years as a piper, until he left to work in Alice Springs.

On his return he joined the Adelaide University Pipe Band, where

he is still a valued member. He is seen here with his wife Kerrie.

Ray was in the bass section for many years, mainly on the tenor

drum but with occasional stints on the bass. He is seen here

with his wife Helen and Lynette Hamon.

The Krelle brothers, Tony and Karl, served as side-drummers

with the band in the early 1980's. Tony was leading side in

several important band contests.

Peter was a very polished tenor and side drummer who learned

his skills with our band and went on to become leading side

in several important events and contests. He is seen here with his wife.
