Eight hearty souls showed up on Saturday, February 10th to help move debris from the trails up to the curb for removal. The group's main focus was to get all the limbs cleaned up from bridges, creek banks, and along the trails. When the time came to remove the debris from the steep creek banks, they worked as a team, with two in the creek bed and two pulling debris up to the trail.
In addition to debris removal, Shannon and Jean were able to "ring" six to seven trees. Ringing a tree involves cutting a ring of ivy off of a tree trunk about three to five feet off the ground. This will kill the ivy; if the ivy isn't killed, it will kill the tree. Ivy is one of several invasive species in our common areas. Check out the Invasive Species slide show to learn more about the invasive species in our area.
If you see the volunteers on the trails or in the neighborhood, be sure to say hello and thank them for their hard work.
A big thank you to Laurel, Sarah, Shannon, Jon, David, Todd, Jean and Mary!
