The Union des artistes, notorious for negotiating lucrative deals on behalf of its members compared to other locations where French dubbing is performed (France, Belgium, and according to one industry insider even Mexico city!) is considering relaxing some of its regulations and even lowering fees just to keep the dubbing industry afloat. It takes year to build a clientele and days to loose it to a competitor, says the same source.This change brings interesting questions about how labour is negotiated on behalf of the artists, and what media distribution policies can do to protect cultural workers in this province.
