Sub Domain B: Managing Student Behavior and Classroom Procedures

Definition

Educator always communicates clear expectations and maintains high standards for student performance and behavior.

Rationale

To create a student-centered classroom conducive to efficient and effective learning, I believe that it is important to start with a healthy and positive teacher-student professional relationship. Developing mutual trust in the classroom is paramount before learning can even begin. As the old adage states, “students don’t care what you know until they know that you care.”

To aid with developing mutual trust and to affirm positive classroom behavior, I developed a basic start-of-class routine that was inspired by Saint John Baptist de La Salle and that allows students to get into learning mode after transitioning from a previous class.
