Rationale
My continuing exploration of Saint John Baptist de La Salle’s pedagogical and spiritual influence reminds me that my role as a lay minister, with a specific role as teacher, is to lead students toward their practical and spiritual salvation.
I see my work as belonging to the wider mission of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools of “providing a human, and Christian education to the young, and especially the poor” and the Roman Catholic Church’s desire to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with all and “to make disciples of all nations.”
To that end, I believe it is important for my students to know that the work that we do in class and the knowledge that we gain through the course of our studies are meant for the glorification of God and the empowerment of the common good.
One of the first steps in attaining this vision is to cultivate in students a strong sense of prayer and self-reflection. To cultivate in young people an appreciation for and involvement in Christian service through the myriad of opportunities we offer at DLSHS is a necessary part of fulfilling our school mission.
Finally, I try to be a strong witness to the Five Lasallian Core Principles, to openly share my faith with all of those willing to hear, and to learn from all of those willing to teach.
