Definition
Educator is a school leader in developing student outcomes that are aligned with course goals and essential questions and these are tailored to meet the individual needs of students.
Educator fully implements the elements of “backwards design” of course work.
Rationale
Upon joining the DLSHS faculty, it was important for me to take my previous teaching and learning experiences and apply them appropriately to my new context. As I designed my courses, I ensured that the course outcomes were directly aligned with our department goals, with our school Integral Student Outcomes, and with our regional Lasallian Core Principles. Finally, all assignments are designed with both the students and the outcomes in mind.
Evidence
The following course outlines follow more traditional stated course learning outcomes as defined at the department level.

These sample course outlines reflect my exploration of Understanding by Design, an outcomes-based learning system that was developed by Jay McTighe and Grant Higgins and that is used by all teachers at Saint Mary's College High School. Specifically, I borrow the concepts of big ideas, essential questions, and core tasks to help guide my pedagogy. I also make specific reference to evaluation guidelines and grading categories, which, in turn, hopefully inform my overall assessment program.
