Making Moneyz for Wizzards
Short of randomly handing a score of pickled carrots to a newly hatched
wizzard or filling the gym chest with almost useful gear, and lacking the
patience to take on apprentices, I have scribbled up this nearly worthwhile
guide.
Scrolls. Once you get your scrolls skill to level 51, you can procure some
tiny or small packets from a shop in the Plaza of Broken Moons, as well as
a few chapbooks and a writing implement, like a quill, pen, or pencil. Many
pshops encourage new wizzards in scribing for their respective shops, some
pay better than others, some let you set your own price and retail the scroll
packets for a 10% or other random markup, and some have fixed pricing for
how much you can sell your 4-pack of scrolls for. On average, you should be
making roughly $10 AM per 4-pack packet, at least for JPCT. The rates are
lower for other spells like CCC, EHA, FFM, FNP, GFR, TPA, and not all pshops
carry these.
Components. If you have the patience, you can always gather or make
components (pickled eyes/carrots, PFGA amulets, lightable torches,
beeswax candles, etc) and sell these to Tarnach's in Sator Square. Simply
ring the bell and someone might get around to helping you offload those
items. You might have to travel outside the city limits of Ankh-Morpork
for those carrots at the Academy of Artificers. And, it certainly doesn't
hurt to get your bearings from exploring nearby towns. Making your own
candles takes some work, a special stove, wicks and honeycombs. It is more
of an exercise of making something from scratch than being profitable since
candles are extremely cheap at various npc-run shops. It might be ten-
pence cheaper than buying from a shop.
Looting bodies of the fallen. You might want to ask whoever murdered the
victim if they're okay with you looting the corpse. Some people get angry
over looties happening by others, so it is best to ask first for permission.
Otherwise, if the said party has moved on after burying or ritual burying
the corpses, the corpses are fair game to anyone who recovers the corpses
for body part extractions (eyes, heart, hands, limbs) or general equipment.
Even learning to guild max when under GL 50, there are some valuing skills
that can help you gain a better understanding of how much an item is worth
or what it does such as 'value' 'judge' 'vurdere'. Use 'recover' to un-bury
something, either an item or corpse.
Looting will be the fastest way to get moneys. Armed with the ability to
value an item will help you configure a loot alias that best utilizes the
carrying capacity of your containers for looties. The obvious items are
spare change (because of the weight, many people simply do not pick up
smaller denominations of coinage ('help currency') like pence, saveloy-rhinus
or ptascpi. Not to worry though, there are moneychanger counters in just about
every major city that allow you to 'sell' the forn currency for a small fee.
Back to the valuing skills, it is possible to 'fence' items to Shifty Jim
or Sol at the AM Thieves Guild for more than half of what an item retails
for. This is skill based. It is useful to fence items, rather than selling
them at the general store, for items that have been stolen (and discarded).
Be sure to 'keep' items that you don't want to fence or sell.
Jobz. Once you have a better handle of either casting JPCT or making your
own jewellery blorps, you may find that doing jobs for the Ankh-Morpork
Jobs Market can be quite lucrative since item procurement costs are
reimbursed by Mr Werks; though that is largely skill based and how well
you can travel around the Disc.
