All 'faith items' (holy symbols, amulets, prayer beads, prayer books and relics) can be found in a variety of places, but mainly they come from temple shops. Most of these shops will sell all of the aforementioned items, and can be found wherever there are temples (there is also a peddler in Bes Pelargic who sells these near the Imperial Palace). The more inventive priest however will acquire all the items they need at no cost to themselves. The primary method for this is raiding the shops in Ohulan-Cutash, where the temples have no protection against shoplifters. Different sorts of faith items are carried by different people around the disc, and almost all can be acquired with the sword should that be your taste. These alternative methods of acquisition are detailed below.
All faith items must be specific to your god, or they will be useless to you. They need not be bought in this state however - they can be consecrated at your god's high altar by any priest worshiping that deity (provided, of course, that they possess the meager skills required).
Holy Symbol
Used in: Various. Non-priests who worship Sek will need one to perform their 'light' ritual.
Cost: $15 / $50
Also found: Carried by denizens of the druid circle (in the form of black metal medallions), Althea of Pishe (a small ivory statue) and other NPC priests around AM or Sto Lat.
Holy symbols come in two varieties - the cheaper, plain one, and a more expensive model in a different shape for each god. All these must be carried with the exception of Sek's deluxe version (which comes in the form of a black metal medallion) and Gapp's (golden thimbles). Anyone can take advantage of this by consecrating one of these to their god as mentioned above.
Holy Amulet
Used in: Various.
Cost: $25
Also found: On some npc priests in AM or Sto Lat.
Prayer Beads
Used in: None, although they will replace any (and every) other faith item when sufficiently charged. (Except for prayer books)
Cost: $50
Also found: Carried by no-one, although occasionally they can be found (sometimes even ready charged) in player shops. Beware of consecrating prayer beads to another god if they are not newly acquired - any charge in them will be lost. Reconsecrating beads to the same god can be done (to remove a remember, for example).
(Custum beads in a wide variety of colours and materials can be bought from an npc in the Temple of Small Gods)
Prayer Book
Used in: Various.
Cost: $50
Also found: On some npc priests.
To add the necessary prayers to your book, give your book to your instructor. He'll add the prayers you need at that time.
Holy Relic
Used in: Creeping doom, feedback, raise dead, resurrect.
Cost: $150
Also found: On some npc priests in Sto Lat.
Due to the cost of purchasing these, alternative methods of acquisition are often sought. One way is to employ a licensed thief to steal one from one of the many temple shops in Ankh-Morpork. Although the price will be greatly reduced this way, one third of the full price will have to be paid towards the thief's quota. Holy relics are also often for sale at Gufnork's temple in Ohulan-Cutash. Any thief worth their salt (and many other people) will be able to pick one of these up at no cost.
For those without the requisite contacts or covert skills, a relic can be found on Rudolpho of Sek in the Temple of Small Gods. Dispatching him is no easy task, since he has seemingly boundless energy and employs both 'creeping doom' and 'fear' against any attacker. Happily though, all priests are immune from creeping doom, and a couple of priests working together will, with a bit of patience, be able to take him down.
Holy Incense
Used in: Various.
Cost: 75p
Also found: On NPC priests in Sto Lat (often in a satchel).
Many priests will need regular supplies of holy incense, since any ritual that requires it will involve it being burned and therefore consumed. For most, it is cheap enough to pay for, and can be found in temple shops across the Disc. It does not need to be consecrated to your god.
Dagger
Used in: Holy sacrifice, unquiet spirit.
Cost: Around 50p
Sold in the smithy by the Mended Drum, or found in various weapon shops, general stores and people's hands.
Party Hat
Used in: Life of the party, Hat's totem.
Cost: $2.50 (or 5 tooni)
These are sold in the Temple of Hat in Djelibeybi and in a specialized hat shop in AM.
Shield
Used in: Major shield.
Cost: Variable
There are many different shields out there to choose from. If the shield is used only for this ritual though, it is best to get the lightest possible. A small leather shield is easy to obtain and comes from the npc wizards in Sto Lat.
Alcohol
Used in: Visit.
Cost: Variable
Sources of cheap alcohol are too numerous to mention here. All good bars, pubs, restaurants and liquor stalls should stock a plentiful supply. Make a careful choice though, not every type of alcohol is suitable...
Candles
Used in: Unquiet spirit.
Cost: Around 5p
These are found in several varieties in many shops around the Disc. Some handy places to pick them up from are: General stalls in the marketplace in Ohulan-Cutash, the bazaar in Djelibeybi, the Divine Flower Marketplace in Bes Pelargic and the "Get 'em while we still got 'em" shop on the Plaza of Broken Moons, Ankh-Morpork. Make sure to test whether you can "light candle"! Not all candles can be used in this ritual...
Parsley
Used in: Food of life.
Cost: None
This can be 'gather'ed from the gardens in the Temple of Small Gods, Scrogden or near the northern gate in Bes Pelargic. One of the shops on Isle of Gods in AM also sells parsley from time to time.
Hands, skulls and other body parts
Used in: Horror, terror, food of life and Sek's totem.
Cost: None.
These come from corpses of dead people and are therefore plentiful. Anyone can 'get' the required part from a corpse provided they are holding a knife or dagger.
Water
Used in: Pishe's totem
Cost: None.
The most convenient way to fetch water is to pick up a towel. Towel shops and stalls can be found in: Smittles Way (AM), Cockbill St. (AM), Market Square (OC), Long St. (CWC), Garden Walk (CWC), Wizards' Guild shop (DJB). Perform 'splash' on yourself, and then dry yourself with the towel, which will then contain sufficient water to be the target of totem. Another way is to find an empty bottle (from a shelf in Granny's scullery, or various general shops) and 'fill' it with water from a river or fountain.
Pebbles
Used in: Sandelfon's totem
Cost: None.
These can be bought from Tarnach's (on the east side of Sator Square) for 25p, or obtained by typing 'get rock' in Gloomy Forest. A more efficient method is to 'chip' them from a rock using a hammer or pickaxe. Rocks can be bought for 6p from the rock shop or street vendor on Quarry Lane.
