Copperspiel

The Copperspiel is our annual bonspiel, usually held the third weekend in January. It is an 8 team open spiel, with 2 groups of 4 round robin play and page playoff to the final. We have a three game guarantee, meals provided by the club, and keg beer.

For more information, please contact us or reach out on Facebook. Sign up for our Copperspiel mailing list to be first notified when registration opens.

Check out some of our photos from previous Copperspiels!

"Up where the snow never stops and winter lives long past May

A curling club was built in an old mine shop and the locals came to play

With no country club or snob appeal

this small but hearty group decided 'let's have a spiel!

We can do it! we'll put out the call

to curlers in Portage, the Soo and down to St. Paul.'

Our own field of dreams a frozen version, actually

People will come, Come from miles around

to relive what curling was like in the 1900's

on ice... prepared quite naturally

This old style Ice you ask? Is it keen? does it fall?

Is the weight for a hit, ten feet past the wall?

Now I'll ask you... does it matter?

Nae! For what matters

Twas true back then just as today...

Is that we curled Played the roaring game,

In Calumet, in Michigan

Where the snow never stops and winter lives long past May."
