CCCC Rules of Play

Revised 12/1/2022

1. All games of the Copper Country Curling Club shall be governed by the rules of the United States Curling Association and detailed in “Rules of Play - Club and Bonspiel Use”, except as follows.

2. Games shall be eight ends.

a. Games tied after 8 ends should be broken by a draw to the button. If an early game is tied with less than 15 minutes available to play and a game is scheduled to follow, the tie shall be broken by a draw to the button. If time allows and both teams agree, an extra end can be played to settle a tie.

b. Draw To The Button rules:

i. The team whose rock ends up closest to the button will be the winner.

ii. A coin toss will be used to decide which team throws first, with the winner of the toss making the choice of going first or second.

iii. Each team will decide which team member will throw the rock. Sweeping is allowed.

iv. After each rock is thrown, one player from each team will measure the rock locations from the center of the button using the measuring device or a tape measure.

v. If neither team's rock lands in the house, the teams shall repeat the process until a winner is determined. The same order of throwing the rocks will be used throughout the process, however teams can use different players to throw if additional attempts are necessary.

c. For computing league standings, 3 points will be awarded for a win on the ice or by forfeit; 0 points will be awarded for a loss on the ice or a forfeit; 2 points will be awarded to the winner of a game decided by extra ends or a draw to the button; 1 point will be awarded to the loser of a game decided by extra ends or a draw to the button.

d. 1½ points will be awarded to teams who have played fewer games than others due to “byes” in the schedule.

e. If a team requests a postponement, it is that team's responsibility to try to get the game made up. The postponing team must make at least two attempts (provide 2 available dates) to make-up the game or the game will be considered a forfeit. If the other team cannot play on either of the 2 make-up requests, the points will be split (1.5 points for each team).

3. Teams are required to play with at least two original members (two plus one substitute or two plus two substitutes). Subs will play lead if there is only one sub or lead and second if there are two subs.

4. Teams not ready to play (minimum of three players present, and satisfying Rule number 3 above) at the designated time, shall be penalized as follows: 1 to 10 minutes late - 1 point, loss of hammer, game starts with 2nd end; 11 to 20 minutes late - 2 points, loss of hammer, game starts with 3rd end; 21 to 30 minutes late - 3 points, loss of hammer, game starts with 4th end; more than 30 minutes = game forfeit.

5. Skips or Ice Committee Members are responsible for cleaning and pebbling the ice prior to the start of the next game on that sheet, that evening.

6. The skips are responsible for;

a. The sportsmanlike conduct of their players

b. Expeditious game play

c. Informing team members of changes in game times.

7. The ice surface will be deemed NOT playable, and game play canceled, if conditions cause;

c. a curler of reasonable strength cannot consistently throw a stone past the far hog line.

9. The club President and/or Vice President will be responsible for determination of play postponement due to weather conditions. Determination will be made no later than 4:30pm. The President and/or Vice President will inform one member for each team who will be responsible for notifying other team members of any schedule changes.

10. Teams may postpone games by mutual consent and permission of club President or Vice President. Denial of such change may be made on the basis of ice availability or previous ice commitments (check the site calendar www.coppercountrycurlingclub.com for scheduled Drill House events).

11. The club strongly encourages players to abide by the following player safety guidelines, and skips to enforce the following guidelines:

a. Players who fall on the ice during play and strike any part of their head on the ice, a stone, broom, etc., should immediately cease participation in the game.
