U.S. Customs and Border Protection reports derailing a Canadian citizen who was attempting to smuggle marijuana into the country on Tuesday.
According to reports, the 25-year-old woman was traveling with a toddler and her boyfriend, destined for Wisconsin, when the party was directed to the secondary inspection area. The search revealed marijuana cigarettes and other associated drug paraphernalia in the woman’s purse with authorities. Additional investigation led authorities to discover another six grams of marijuana concealed in a plastic baggie, wrapped in a prophylactic, hidden in the woman’s rectal cavity.
“The incident reminds us of the lengths people will go to smuggle harmful substances into our country,” said Port Director Devin Chamberlain. “This is another example of the hard work and thorough inspections performed every day by CBP officers at the port of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.”
Authorities confiscated the illegal substances and penalized the woman for the offense before refusing her entry into the Unites States.
She was subsequently returned to Canada.
