At 10:25 a.m. Friday, police were dispatched to Steve’s Music regarding a burglary complaint. Officers spoke with the shop’s owner who stated someone smashed in the back door to gain entry into the store sometime between 6 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. Friday. Once inside, the thieves stole approximately $400 in cash, the store’s open-accounts records, and approximately $5,000 in merchandise. Around 10 p.m. Friday, a woman and her boyfriend came into the station to report that she believes her 20 year old son was involved in a crime. The Sault woman told police that when she woke up, her living room was littered with guitars and other merchandise, and that her son suddenly had a large sum of money despite being unemployed. Police returned to the apartment and located the suspect passed out amidst his recent acquisitions; an additional search of the residence turned up several tools believed to be used to break into the store. Jaime A. Chagoya, 20, of the Sault was arrested for burglary-breaking and entering of an unoccupied structure and lodged in the Chippewa County jail.
