There are 13 stages all varying in length and amount of ascent/descent, starting at Llanthony Priory and finishing at Castell-Y-Bwlch. All legs are entirely on the road. In 2015 a total of 24 teams from 16 local clubs competed in the event. As with the Cotswold Relays and the Welsh Castle Relays, each leg is run as a separate race and individual leg times are accumulated for overall team positions. Current overall positions up to the leg before are published at the start of each leg so you are able to see how your team is fairing as the race progresses. There is always a large social gathering at Castell-Y-Bwlch as the final leg runners finish up the steep hill. Food is served and everyone enjoys a drink or two as we wait for the results and prize ceremony.
This event is very close to Chepstow and popular with our members: Leg 9 finishes (and leg 10 starts) at Chepstow Castle. In the past we've only been allowed to enter two teams.
