Chepstow Harrier since 1886

Chepstow Harriers was first believed to be formed in 1886 and continued until the 1920s, the club was reformed by like minded local runners in 1987 and continues to this day, with current members having represented East Wales, Wales and England in British road and cross country Inter Regional competitions.

During the Harriers first period the club had a number of talented runners, successfully competing at county and national level.  The picture to the left is the team photo from the 1913/14 season, many of whom went on to fight in the 1st world war.   Sam Judd and Cliff Price are shown who were also members of the Welsh Cross Country team and are seen wearing their Welsh Cross Country Association vests.

Clif Price was hailed in his day as the greatest of all Welsh distance runners.  In the three years as a track athlete and cross-country runner, he took 16 firsts out of the 21 prizes, including double Welsh championship of 1 and 4 mile races in 1912 and 1913.  He also run for England and his star performance was made representing England when he finished 2nd to the current record holder and was acclaimed as a future British Champion.   Tragical cliff was seriously wounded in the 1st world war, his injury resulted in a left leg amputation and a hole in his right calf from a bullet wound!

Sam Judd continued to complete after the war and was again a member of the Welsh Cross Country International Team.  In 1921 he won a medal in the 1mile race.
