When it comes to anxiety and depression disorders, the two main categories of treatment are psychological therapies and medicines.
Psychological therapies involve talking through your thoughts and feelings with a qualified professional. An example of this is cognitive behavioural therapy, which aims to address the way your thoughts, feelings and behaviours interact.
Medicines called antidepressants can be used for both anxiety and depression disorders. The most common ones are called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).
Often, a treatment approach will involve a combination of both psychological therapies and medicines. This approach will be tailored to the individual and their specific situation.
ROJoson Resolutions on Providing Psychosocial Therapy and Support for Cancer Patients
I always hope and pray that my cancer patients do not go into developing mental disorders, specifically anxiety and depression disorders. They may worry (natural) but this should not go to the point of anxiety and depression disorders.
I will include control measures (psychosocial therapy and support) as early as at the time of first consultation, time of diagnosis and treatment, up to cancer survivorship, up to the time there are unavoidable recurrences, and up to the time they reach end-of-life stage for those with terminal cancer.
