National Cancer Consciousness Week
January 15, 2022 to January 21, 2022
National Cancer Consciousness Week is observed every third week of January by virtue of Proclamation No. 1348.
Cancer is a major public health threat worldwide. It is a killer disease when not detected early and poses burden on patient, families, communities, sectors of the society and the national development of the country.
The observance of the National Cancer Consciousness Week focuses on the avoidance of exposure to the risk factors of chronic diseases namely: physical inactivity, improper diet and nutrition, smoking and use of alcohol. Early detection through screening of high risks individual is the primary concern to halt the progress of the disease. Synchronization of efforts towards the prevention and control is done by both public and private institution and organizations.
What /how does each one of us, Filipino citizens, contribute to the objectives of the National Cancer Consciousness Week?
At least for the observance week but to remind ourselves also to do the following everyday for the rest of our life -----
===Avoid all known risk factors for all and specific types of cancers.
===Do self-examination of the whole body and its parts as part of self-screening for cancer.
=== Be in touch with reliable medical information on cancer development and cancer management.
=== Use the 4Ks of Patient Empowerment:
Kaalaman, Kakayanan, Karapatan and Kapangyarihan
to gain greater control over decisions in the prevention, mitigation, and management of cancer.
