Stanley Henson
Dr. Stanley J. Henson is a native of Atlanta and a graduate of the historic Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1966.
Dr. Henson attended Morehouse College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a minor degree in Education in 1972. He later obtained a Masters of Arts degree in Education from the former Atlanta University in 1976, a Juris Doctor from Atlanta Law School in 1979,
an Educational Specialist degree from Jacksonville State University in 1994, and a Doctor of Education from the University of Sarasota in 1998.
A noted educator, Dr. Henson taught Social Studies at D.M. Therrell High School in Atlanta Public Schools for twelve years. There, he coached football and basketball and served as a Department Head. Dr. Henson worked in the DeKalb County School System for more than twenty-five years, moving from classroom instructor to Central Office personnel. During this time, he served as a classroom teacher, high school Assistant Principal, and Principal at the renowned Southwest DeKalb High School and Open Campus High School. He completed his tenure in the DeKalb County School System in the Department of Student Relations where he served as the Hearing Officer for the DeKalb Tribunal, hearing more than fifteen thousand cases. Dr. Henson has also taught on the college level as an adjunct professor at Atlanta Metropolitan College and at Jacksonville State University.
Dr. Henson is the recipient of the Atlanta Public Schools “STAR Teacher” Award, as well as numerous honors and certificates. He is a member of the Morehouse College Alumni Association, the Prince Hall Masons, the DeKalb County Chapter 100 Black Men of America, Inc., Leadership Atlanta, a Charter Member of Leadership DeKalb, and a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
Dr. Henson’s private sector experiences include his role as Bond Manager for E.W. Bowen and
Company, President of Contractors Planning Group, Inc., and President of Escalade Education
Consulting Group, Inc., a company that specializes in providing training and support for
Georgia’s educators and students.
Dr. Henson is married to Mrs. Jennifer J. Henson and between them they have five children and
five grandchildren.
