As I think of the many blessings the Lord has bestowed upon me and my family,I am truly grateful.
Reminiscing on the evening of June 1966,I knew that I was about to embark upon another chapter in my life. Furthering my education was the first agenda item. From fall 1966 to spring 1970 I attended Spelman College and received my BA degree in Sociology with a minor in Elementary Education. I then began deciding upon a career and planning my fall wedding to Alphonzo Culbreath (BTW class of 1965), the "Love of My Life". We have been married for 46 years and were blessed to have one son, Kealin. He is an Attorney and Adjunct Professor, married to Tamika. They live in Upper Marlboro MD,with my two beautiful and amazing granddaughters (Serena 2 years and Gabrielle 8 years old).
My career started as an Elementary School Teacher with APS. After a few years I went to the Department of Family and Children Services where I spent time as a Case Manager, Eligibility Supervisor, and Program Administrator. I retired from DFACS
In Dec.2000, after 30 years of service.
From June 2006 to April 2010 I worked part time as a Medicaid Consultant.
Currently I am spending an enormousamount of time with my 89 year old mother, along with my sisters- Dr.Ann Butts Corley, Judy Butts-Smith and Dr.Betty Butts Hill who are all BTW graduates. I have been a member of Union Baptist
Church for 61 years, serving the Lord in many capacities.Currently I am on the finance committee and past
President of the usher board. I am a Golden Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,Inc. I love
Traveling, reading, collecting elephants and spending precious time with my awesome granddaughters as they are truly my heart and soul. Tonight on this our 50th Reunion I am elated to share this evening with my Classmates who also shared a part in my life as we matriculated from the halls of Booker T. Washington High School.
Happy 50th Reunion Classmates, may God continue to bless you all immensely.
