In 1961, I continued the Winfrey family tradition and enrolled at Booker T. Washington High School. It was a memorable 5 years! After graduation, I attended Spelman College earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1970 and a Masters of Arts degree from Georgia State University in 1979.
My first job was working under the leadership of Principal William H. Cleveland, Sr.
(remember him, our Biology teacher at BTW ) at English Ave. Elementary and Brown High Schools. In 1971, I accepted a position with the Fulton County Dept. of Health and Wellness - Women's Health Program serving women in need of medical and social services. Retirement came in December, 2003 after 32 years of service, with my last position as Women's Health Coordinator. Working part-time at the Champion Newspaper, the legal organ for DeKalb County, keeps me in the workforce.
I have been married for 35 years, the mother of one daughter and reside in DeKalb County.
I am a 50+ year member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta and an active member of the Marie Hunter Usher Board.
Attending weekly strength building and yoga classes keeps me physically alert. Plays, concerts, Relay for Life, sudoku, spending time with family and friends and "retail therapy" are among my favorite activities.
I look forward in celebrating our 50th year reunion and rekindling friendships with my BTW 66 classmates.
