I am a "Grady" baby, born October 16, 1948. I was raised in the Vine City Community and attended English Avenue and was a member of Centenary Methodist Church on Simpson Street. I worked in the office at Washington High and a maid with my mother at what was the old Winecoff Hotel that nearly burned to the ground two years before I was born. While I was at Morris Brown, I worked as elevator operator at that same hotel. I worked at the Post Office on Peachtree Street while at MBC. I graduated from Morris Brown College with a degree in Psychology.
Having worked already for a few years, when I stepped into the world as an adult I should have been well prepared for the future, but I found I had no clue as to what do next. I took a job at Fidelity Federal Savings and Loan as a computer operator on a computer that was the size of most master bedrooms. In 1973, the Atlanta Police Department began to actively recruit females and blacks to further diversify APD. I retired for the APD in 2002 and am now looking forward to retiring for DeKalb County Schools.
I have one daughter and four grandchildren. I love to travel and look forward to having more time to see the world after so many years of working. I think it's time to enjoy the fruits of my labor with my family and friends.
