    • For this meeting we will travel to Lilac Ridge Farm where Amanda Ellis Thurber will discuss gourds and organic gardening. We will then plant gourds and watch them grow. At the October meeting we will return to the Farm to do magic in making our gourds into colorful arrangements! Frankie Gibson will have photos and gourds on display. We will also have a beautiful book about gourds on display in our library. Please ask Thera Hindmarsh, our librarian, to see this book. Wear old clothes, bring gloves and trowels. We are going to play in the dirt inside the greenhouse!

  • TUESDAY March 14, 2006 Tentative - Smith College Botanic Gardens

    • Time: 12:00-12:30 p.m. Jil, Vicki & Libby will be driving - those wishing to get picked up should

    • Location/Directions: Take I91 South to Exit 20, and follow onto Route 5 south into the center of town. At the intersection of Route 5 and Route 9 (Main Street), turn right onto Route 9. Go straight through four traffic lights, turning left into Smith's main entrance (College Lane) shortly after the fourth set.

    • Program: Spring Bulb Show Week at Smith College Botanic Garden is a beautiful way to break up the long Vermont winters. Smith College Botanic Garden has a long history and is the result of much hard work and dedication. Incorporating the study of plants into academics was an insightful idea in 1875, and it still is. This is the seventh oldest botanic garden in the country, and is one of the few college botanic gardens with a history of continuous operation. This is a very free form tour - members will stroll through the fragrant Greenhouses and see the bulbs at their own pace. They close at 4:00pm

  • August 8, - Visit Emily Dickinson's Home & Garden in Amherst, MA

    • Time: 2:30 p.m.those wishing to car pool should meet at the Exit 1 Mall on the Burger-King side of the parking lot.

    • Location: Amherst, MA.

    • Program: Our tour will begin at 3:30 of the House & Garden - it will take approx 1 hour. A tour of the Emily Dickinson Museum introduces visitors to the poet's world by visiting both the Homestead, where the poet lived, and The Evergreens, home to her brother Austin, sister-in-law Susan, and their three lively children. Focusing on Emily Dickinson’s life and work, the tour shares insights into her private and public worlds.

    • The tour begins at the Homestead and includes a visit to the poet’s bedroom. The route continues over the landscape to The Evergreens. There, in addition to the library, parlor, dining room, and kitchen, visitors have the opportunity to see the children’s nursery, where Emily Dickinson’s beloved nephews and niece spent many hours. Because it is a Monday - the Gift Shop will be closed. There will be no rain-date, so please dress appropriately.

Members should plan to bring their own refreshments or JilMac is planning on stopping at Yankee Candle for tea at the Bulvarian House in the center of the store & shopping and gathering decorating ideas. Yankee Candle is only open until 6pm. We should be back in the Exit 1 Mall parking lot by 7pm.

    • Program: We will be selling snacks at the Vermont Welcome Center. Best to make non-perishable, cookies, small breads, individually wrapped. Sell Lemonaid & Ice Tea. No set prices - just donations accepted. Libby is the chairperson, and will be working during that day, Jil, Vicki & Mileva will take turns at the booth along with other volunteers.     • Time: 6:00-8:00 p.m. those wishing to car pool should meet at the Exit 1 Mall on the Burger-King side of the parking lot at 5:00pm Location/Directions: Take I91 North for 30 miles to Exit 7; Take VT-11 W to Springfield for 5 miles; Bear RIGHT at the Y onto RIVER ST/VT-106. Continue to follow VT-106 for 3 miles; Stay STRAIGHT to go onto VT-10/GASSETTS RD for .1 mile; RIGHT onto BALTIMORE RD. They are 15 Baltimore Rd.

    • Program: Gale Coger and her husband have operated Coger's Sugar House Gardens for the past 6 years and are the 3rd generation to run the farm. They have expanded and improved the Gardens and invite us to take a walking tour with them of their ponds surrounded by perennial gardens, greenhouses, a nursery and a log cabin garden shop filled with home and garden accessories, exquisite florals, unusual candles and fine hand crafted gifts. Gale has also offered the use of both of her 4 wheeler/golf carts for those that would prefer to ride.   • June 13, 2005 Water Fountain Basics - Five Acre Farm Greenhouses

    • Time: 6:30 p.m. those wishing to car pool should meet at the Exit 1 Mall on the Burger-King side of the parking lot at 6:00pm

    • Location/Directions:: Five Acre Farm, located in Northfield, MA.

    • Program: Cindy Drumgool, Five Acre Farm, will do a demonstration of several water fountains. Members will then be able to browse and shop on their own.

    • Location: South Deerfield, MA. - those wishing to car pool should meet at the Exit 1 Mall on the Burger-King side of the parking lot at 12:15

    • Program: We’ll have a short overview of butterflies and butterfly plants from the farm staff and then be free to roam the habitat on our own. Bring your camera. This will be a special “summer treat” in the cold of winter. We will meet at the Exit 1-Outlet Center at 12:15 to car pool to South Deerfield, MA.

    • Hostesses: There will be no hostesses for this event. Members may purchase snacks on their own from the farm’s reasonably-priced menu.

    • Program: Karen Hembrow, Basketville Store Designer will demonstrate how to use silk and dried flowers in floral arrangements. Karen was professionally trained at Boston's Rittner's Floral Design School and has been a floral designer for 30 years. Locally she has worked at Taylor for Flowers & Newfane Greenhouse.
