It was June of 2008, I was living on my family farm. We just got a laptop from one of my high school teachers who wanted to see me succeed. The day we got dial-up in our house, I remember stringing the phone cord from the hall to the kitchen table. I booted the laptop up and waited, and waited and waited some more (It was a super old computer on dial-up what did you expect)
I searched google for Star Trek games and came across what seemed like an interesting idea. I could be my own character and play with other people and I liked writing short stories so it matched perfectly. I opened the application form and the first question was what is your email. After about 1 hour I was able to create my first Gmail account and I returned to the application.
I was so excited when I was accepted into Discovery a week later. The emails started to flood my inbox and I had no clue what to do, but everyone was so friendly and helpful. From teaching me how to write stories to how to generally use my computer.
My first character was a disaster. T'Sam was a Vulcan. Having never written in this kind of a capacity before it was hard to get into character. With mentorship, I went through 2 other unmemorable characters before permanently taking on the character Dan.
Over the years I've had the privilege of serving on many, almost all, of the other duty stations in Borderlands. But My heart is still with Discovery.
So a question to you my friends; What is your story?
