First and foremost, the Command Team is here to write stories of adventure and discovery with you. Our shared passion for storytelling drives everything we do, and we are committed to creating an immersive, collaborative environment where creativity thrives. Together, we explore new worlds, overcome challenges, and shape the universe of Star Trek: Borderlands - USS Discovery.
The Commanding Officer, or CO, is the cornerstone of leadership for the Duty Station. With ultimate authority, the CO ensures the storyline stays true to Star Trek lore, supports authors, and oversees the overall direction of the station. The CO’s role includes:
Maintaining storyline integrity within the Star Trek universe
Liaising with the Leadership Council
Managing resources such as the website and messaging platforms
Resolving disputes and steering the storyline when necessary
The CO’s primary character typically serves as the commanding officer of the station
The Executive Officer, or XO, serves as the CO’s trusted second-in-command. The XO leads day-to-day operations, ensuring the Duty Station runs smoothly. Key responsibilities include:
Supporting the CO’s vision and direction
Representing the Duty Station on the Leadership Council
Assisting players in integrating into the storyline
The XO’s primary character often takes the role of the second-in-command aboard the station
The Mentor’s focus is to:
Welcome and train new authors
Offer support and guidance to both new and veteran players
Act as a bridge between the Command Team and players, ensuring everyone’s voice is heard
The Webmaster team is responsible for keeping the Duty Station’s website up-to-date and accurate. Duties include:
Updating content regularly to reflect ongoing missions.
Managing technical aspects to ensure the site runs smoothly.
Facilitating form submissions and other interactive features.
AUTHOR RIBBONS
Character Development
Recognizes the efforts of a member to develop their characters' backgrounds and psychology.
Years of Service
Shows how long a member has been writing with Star Trek: Borderlands.
Each band denotes a year of service and an additional ribbon every five years.
Purple Heart
Is earned by members who allow a significant character to be killed.
Valor
Is awarded to members who distinguish themselves by exceptionally meritorious service.
Discovery
is awarded to members who develop and utilize a scientific discovery or concept in their storytelling.
Exploration
Is awarded to members who embody the spirit of exploration.
Innovation
Is awarded to members who develop and utilize a technological innovation in their storytelling
Duty Station Development
Is awarded to members recognized for their contributions to the improvement and development of Discovery
Good Conduct
Is awarded to members recognized for their contributions to Discovery.
Plot Development
Recognizes the efforts of a member to sketch and guide a storyline.
Plot Narrator
Recognizes the efforts of a member who narrates a storyline and guides players through the story.
Borderlands Council
Worn by current player representatives on the Borderlands Council.
Duty Station Command
Is awarded to all members who have taken a command position (commanding officers and executive officers) with a duty station. It is worn in perpetuity by former command staff.
Hall of Fame
Is awarded to members with no less than five years of service, have achieved rank O-5 Captain and are recognized by their peers for long-standing, meritorious service to Star Trek: Borderlands.
