BACKGROUND

Pericles was a minion of a Pirate that attempted takeover of the USS Discovery while under Captain MacLaren's command. When the pirates were warded off and disbanded, Pericles remained onboard the Discovery, having taken a liking to Captain MacLaren and Lieutenant Patras. He remains a loyal part of the crew and companion of the Captain and Lieutenant Patras, who are engaged to be married.

Pericles developed a strong bond with Captain MacLaren's 'niece', Lauren Grant (now Ensign). The two continue to spend much time together. Lauren successfully taught Pericles to communicate via sign language which he uses effectively.
