202. Motorway cafés

I like to finish off a dive with a bacon sandwich in a motorway café somewhere. A motorway café is pretty much the same thing as a roadside diner in the USA. When I lived there I would usually find a diner somewhere on my way back from a dive early in the AM.I think it is a good way to relax, being there while the rest of the world is still waking up, and knowing that I've already done something with my day. I generally seek out the independently owned cafés which I may well have spotted while driving out to the location. For example when travelling back east from the Lake District I'll often call in at the Stainmore Café on the A66. They open early and provide good value for money. Further south is the Tebay service station which is comparatively expensive, but still provides good views and atmosphere. Heading north into the borders provides a great many possibilities with numerous independent cafés located either in the market towns or the service stations next to their bypasses.
