Harvesting calendar

There are many fruit and nut bearing trees at Belipola. Seasonal fruit can be harvested to make jams and marmalades for example, which are mostly used during trainings and workshops. Excess products are sold at the Good Market Shop or to visitors.

To maximise on what the forest produces, its important to have a harvesting calendar, which can be used to assess and plan harvests. The Arboretum & Operations Team, harvests the fruits and passes it on to the Kitchen & Processing Team, who processes the fruits into products. The Marketing & Sales Coordinator, then coordinates with the Good Market to send the products to the shop, or places them in the Belipola product cabinet in the office.

The harvesting calendar below is based on the Belipola Tree Database, so has 160 species listed. In order to assess more fruiting species, further plant and tree identification needs to happen.
