The Lindell Hotel (formerly known as the Commercial Hotel, also the Ellis Hotel) was destroyed by fire in November 1908. The fire was of unknown cause, there was no fire brigade at the time to help with the fire. Citizens present used buckets and water hoses to attempt to douse the fire. The flames were so intense, that glass was breaking in the Praeger Building (Est. 1905) 80 feet away. According to the article located below, the Commercial Bank on the opposite side of the hotel also suffered damage, along with many other buildings in the vicinity.
