Video Modeling

I believe the embedded Linda Haymes video from Mind Institute provides excellent details on research regarding video modeling for students with autism. A few years old, this video provides a good overview on how video modeling is motivated, particularly in response to the problem of overselectivity of response in many students with autism. She talks about other technologies but her own research and focus of the talk is on video modeling. Lots of references to great research.

Video Models for a number of different tasks can also be found on you-tube, although Dr. Haymes stresses the fact that children with autism do not learn steps unless they are each paired with audio and video 'labelling' of the explicit steps of each task.

Some of the video Modeling relates to social skils, interpersonal skills, cooperative play and imaginative play. She mentions a parent's website, Liisa Newman which also provides a lot of information on using video modeling for academic skills.
