About the Creator of this Site

Katharina Boser has a Ph.D. in Developmental and Cognitive Psychology from Cornell University, where she studied language acquisition in children. From 1997-2000 she was a research scientist at The University of Maryland Baltimore where she developed computerized rehabilitation technologies for adult patients with severe language impairment (i.e., aphasia). She joined the Cognitive Neurology, Neuropsychology group in the Department of Neurology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 2000 focusing her research on the use of technology in the assessment and rehabilitation of language and cognition in autism. She has been a core member of Cure Autism Now’s Innovative Technologies for Autism Committee (CAN-ITA) since 2003 and in July of 2008 became the chair of Autism Speaks’ “Innovative Technologies for Autism” Board– or ITAB. Dr. Boser consults with Anthrotronix (founder of Cosmo's Learning System), a robotics and human factors engineering company in Silver Spring that develops robots for interaction with children with severe learning and language impairments including those with autism. She serves as a scientific advisor for local educators and schools who work with twice exceptional and learning disabled students. Dr. Boser joined the Board of Directors of the Individual Differences in Learning Association, Inc.(IDLA) in 2005 and become president in 2007. She is the director and producer of “Walking the Path with the Twice Exceptional (2E) Learner” a DVD and CD of professional development materials for working with 2E or gifted/learning disabled students in school settings. She gives lectures on the professional development model developed through her research and advocates for UDL. She has also worked on curriculum development for teachers at University of Maryland University College to include information on integrating technologies for different learners in the classroom and is editing a book on Learning Technologies for Autism. She is a new board member of the Atlantic Seaboard Dyslexia Education Center (ASDEC) and continues to present and collaborate on academic research using technologies to improve language and cognitive skills in children with autism and other learning disabilities.
