Note that most fellowships listed below support PhD study but some fellowships (GEM, JPFP) are open to students pursuing MS study. A few (Google UNCF, SMART) support undergraduate study. Most of these fellowships listed below require US citizens or Permanent Residents unless specified. Note that SMART requires military services.

Oracle STEM Scholarships

  • Deadline: check the website. Microsoft STEM tuition scholarship
      • Eligibility: Be enrolled full time in a bachelor’s degree program at a four-year college or university in the United States, Canada or Mexico at the time you submit the application.
      • Minimum GPA: 3.0/4.0
      • Award: full or partial tuition covered for one academic year
    • Deadline: mid April. Development Fund for Black Students in Science and Technology (DFBSST)
      • Eligibility: African-American, undergraduate student majoring (or intending to major) in a technical field of study (i.e., engineering, math, science, etc.), Be enrolled (or identify his or her intention to enroll) at a listed HBCU, and Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
      • Minimum GPA: 3.0/4.0
      • Award: up to $2,000 per year
    • Deadline: mid Sept. UNCF/Merck Undergraduate Science Research Scholarship Awards
      • Eligibility: An undergrad or graduate student as US Citizens and Permanent Residents, being Black, Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American, Alaskan, or Hispanic, having tuition (or tuition related) expenses not covered by scholarships/grants (excluding loans)
      • Minimum GPA: 3.0/4.0
      • Award: between $1,000 and $10,000
    • Deadline: end Sept. Xerox Technical Minority Scholarship
      • Eligibility: An undergrad or graduate student as US Citizens and Permanent Residents, being Black, Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American, Alaskan, or Hispanic, having tuition (or tuition related) expenses not covered by scholarships/grants (excluding loans)
      • Minimum GPA: 3.0/4.0

    • Deadline: around mid Nov Ford Diversity Fellowship. Intended for minorities.

    • Deadline: around mid Nov GEM Fellowship. Intended for minorities. (early consideration: Oct 1)
      • Eligibility: MS - junior/senior undergrads; PhD - those with or pursuing an MS degree.
      • Minimum GPA: 3.0/4.0 for pursuing PhD; 2.8/4.0 for pursuing MS
      • Stipend: PhD - $14,000; MS - $10,000, PhD - 5 years; MS - 3 semesters (Tuition and fees need to be agreed to be paid by member institutions)
    • Deadline: around end Nov National Physical Science Consortium Graduate Fellowships in the Physical Sciences (CS falls into scope)
      • Eligibility: seniors or 1st year PhD students (emphasis on underrepresented minorities & women)
      • Minimum GPA: 3.0/4.0
      • Stipend: $21,000. 4 years
      • Note: It was originally designed for women and minorities, but they often consider white males to be minorities.
    • Deadline: Dec. UNCF/Merck Undergraduate Science Research Scholarship Awards
      • Eligibility: UNCF/Merck hands out at least 15 scholarships each year to African-American juniors who are enrolled full time in any four-year college or university in the U.S. and are studying computer science or a related science or engineering field, and must be eligible for and commit to a summer internship at a Merck facility.
      • Minimum GPA: 3.3/4.0
      • Award: a scholarship recipient’s department is eligible for a grant of up to $10,000, based on the leftover portion of the scholarship after the student’s education expenses are paid.
    • Deadline: around Mid Jan. The Gates Millennium Scholars Program
      • Eligibility: minority students entering as full-time, first-year students studying computer science, or other STEM or non-STEM majors.
    • Award: good-through-graduation full-ride scholarships
    • Deadline: around Mid Jan. The Generation Google Scholarship
      • Eligibility: An undergraduate or graduate student intending to enroll in upcoming academic year, underrepresented group: African American, Hispanic, American Indian, or Female
