Portraits of a Bridge

Why I took these pictures or shared them:

In my daily photo walks, I usually go in the direction of JFK and the WEEKS bridge; lastly, I wanted to make a change and try the opposite direction. But I thought the bridge at the end of my destination didn’t have very photogenic arches: The very picture I had taken during 2018 winter, I thought, would illustrate this. But after undertaking multiple trips to the Eliot bridge, I thought I was able to capture some pictures that were worth sharing with family and friends/

Gear used:

FUJIFILM X100T — for the winter picture, the rest: — X-T2 & XF 50mm f2 lens. Although I also had an X-t20 with XF 16mm f2.8 lens with me during these walks, it looks like I had better luck with the reach of 50mm focal length.

The rationale behind the settings:

During these walks, I played safe and worked with aperture priority to concentrate on composition. Although there weren’t speedy motions in the scenery, I wanted to capture the kayakers, board paddlers in the right locations. All shared pictures are taken with aperture set to f5.6 — no surprise. One exception is the picture of the flower with the reflection of the bridge on the river: I set the aperture to f2.0 for this one in order to keep the background out of focus as much as possible.

File utilized in preparing the photographs:

With the exception of the last one, the pictures are based on the JPEG file created using CLASSIC CHROME film simulation. The exception one is based on the RAW file and I applied the NEGATIVE PRO HIGH film simulation to it. I thought VELVIA was too saturated and CHROME too muted.

Adjustments during post-processing:

Minimal. Basic tonal changes, but of course, cropping to 1x1 and 16x9 aspect ratios.

Location:

ELIOT Bridge on the Charles

Mostly the Cambridge side
