It is relatively easy to get sharp and well-exposed pictures in digital photography: After a little while, it starts feeling somewhat sterile if not boring. It is possible to make all kinds of variations during post-processing, but spice for picture taking comes from vintage or specialty lenses. The pictures I shared this week were taken by such an “artsy” lens.

Lensbaby SOL 45 has a fixed aperture of f3.5. Its nominal focal length is 45mm, but with an APS-C crop sensor camera, its angle of view is equivalent to 67.5mm. It is quite sharp in the middle and somewhat blurry at the edges. The shift can be tilted left or right to move the focus area. The two blades that can be moved in front to aperture lead to a textured appearance or vignette.
