July 26, 2020 Homily by Fr. Karl Schray

The famous Swiss psychiatrist, Carl Jung, was counseling a man

who had been receiving therapy for 6 months and was getting no better.

Finally, Dr. Jung said, “Friend I cannot do any more for you. What you

need is God.” ‘How do I find God, Dr. Jung?’, the man asked.

I do not know”, said Jung “but I suspect that if you find a group of people

who believe in Him passionately and just spend time with them,

you will find God.”

Finding God, finding faith, discovering the Kingdom of God is a priceless treasure. Jesus promises this kind of treasure to us if we seek first His kingdom and His righteousness.

Since the dawn of time people have been looking for treasure. In bygone days, they searched in the fields, in the hills, in sunken ships. If only they could find gold or diamonds or pearls, they would be happy. Today people are still looking for treasure. Except now, they look for it in the lottery, the casino, the stock market—if only they could hit the jackpot, all their troubles would be over. At least that what the world tells them, and many believe.

Christ compared the kingdom of heaven to a rare pearl or a priceless treasure. The real treasure, the pearl of great price is our Faith. The kingdom of God is a remarkably simple concept. It means knowing that one is a child of God, with a divine dignity and eternal destiny.

How then shall we live? We should live in joy in view of our precious goal—life with God here on earth and in heaven. Let us remember when we trust God, when we render humble service to others, we are doing the will of God, and therefore we are already in the Kingdom of Heaven here on earth.

When you spend time with people who believe in God passionately you will find God.

If you want to keep the priceless pearl of your faith, give your all for it. Give your all for God.
