History:
The gnolls settled this land eons ago when they were still tribal and nomadic. They maintain traditions from that time. Their settling of this land was far from peaceful as they are all warriors and only count ones strength as their asset. They conquered many enemies and foes before running across the idea to build a city. The notion of raising and training young in relative safety was a new notion. It was also detested.
Then came the the first Canicula and she decreed cities would be built. In the cities would be places to train young warriors. Though resisted Canicula proved wise in her call to build a city. Shortly after the building was done and they moved in the city was attacked. The manner of attack would have slaughter the whole tribe instead the warriors drove the attackers away from the city.
Government:
This is a full monarchy. Though the queen maintains advisors her word is law. As it is also a very much military country the leader is always a very capable warrior.
Places of Interest:
Sanguis Arena is where disagreements and duels are settled. In addition executions are carried out here. The final thing done here are battles and tournaments of blood to entertain. The charge to gain entry is but a single copper piece. If you are not a slave, criminal or prisoner then you must pay hefty fees to be allowed to fight as a free-lancer in the arena.
Culture:
Battle is everything in this country. In the arenas battles happen and there is even an Arena guild where free fighters may pay in order to fight. They are also allowed to use the Guild's training facilities to sharpen their skill. Once a year the Sanguis Arena hold a week long battle amongst the slaves. At the end 3 slaves are selected from the survivors and given papers declaring them free.
This desire to battle and shed blood colors their view of everything. They even view peaceful negotiations as a battle to be won. Though the queen will do make alliances and treaties this is more due to her not wanting to waste the strength of her army. As mainly gnolls they can frequently prove to be highly cunning warriors that make every enemy hesitate to attack the country or their allies.
