Well the spring planting season is nearly upon us & I have a quick update on the fruit trail & some dates for you diary!
We have several deliveries of Trees arriving in March for key locations around the village & I am looking for volunteers to help out with the planting:
8th March: All going well, this will be the first planting day for the delivery of bare-root trees. There will probably be 2 locations for this 1) Williamson Hall- 3 Gages + the ground preparation for a blueberry hedge. 2) and hopefully the Coach Road (awaiting confirmation. Also known as the Rough Glen) 2 Plums, 2 Damsons & 2 Apples. 4-6 Vols required.
29th March: This will be the biggest day & will be done in conjunction with the Abernethy Parks Project. Again, this will be across several sites 1) Powrie Park- the Council have kindly donated 6 fruit & nut trees which will be planted at the far end of the park & seeded with wildflowers donated by the AHS. The Council have agreed to do the preparation work for this, but we need help with the planting & sowing. Also, the Parks Project will be planting up their sensory garden here as well & would love some AHS Vols to help out. 2) Williamson Park- we have donated 5 trees (3 Apple & 2 Cherry's) to be planted here. 3) Williamson Hall- the planting of the Blueberry hedge. You can see there will be a lot going on, so it would be great to see a good AHS turn out- it should be a great fun day and a chance to do something for your community!
These 2 dates are a bit dependant on weather, trees arriving on time etc, but I will keep you posted if there are any changes.
Please let me know if you can help and on which day/s.
Hope to see you there!
