The Abernethy Horticultural Society invites you to enter one of its annual Best in Village competitions. There will be prizes for the winners and certificates for winners and runners-up.
All entries will be on display at Garden Day so you can bring your family & friends to see them.
There are three sections; Junior, Junior and Adult working together and Open to all ages.
Entries should be delivered to the Williamson Hall on Garden Day (Saturday 20th September) between 10.00-11.30am. Please fill in and bring along the attached form with your entry (extra forms will be available on the day). Entry forms are available from the link below.
Judging will take place from midday and the winners will be announced, prizes and certificates presented at 3.30pm.
JUNIOR
There are two different competitions according to age: age 2 – 7, age 8 and over
2 – 7 Make a miniature garden in an old seed box or other container not larger than 30 cm x 20cm.
8 and older Photography. Take a picture of a tree, plant or landscape in Abernethy which represents “September”. Photos will feature on the Abernethy Horticultural Society website www.abernethyhorticultural.co.uk
JUNIOR AND ADULT WORKING TOGETHER
Master baker: a traybake using ingredients including fruit, vegetables or herbs. Present at least three slices of the traybake for tasting.
OPEN TO ALL AGES
All baking to be made/decorated with fruit, vegetables, flowers or herbs. Entries will be judged for their flavour and presentation
1. best cake - round or loaf. (Fairy or cup cakes excluded)
2. best biscuit (3 biscuits)
3. best traybake (tray or three pieces )
Jams, pickles, preserves, cordials to be made using fruit, vegetables, herbs flowers and judged for flavour, texture and colour
4. best jam
5. best preserve or pickle
6. best drink/cordial - alcoholic or non-alcoholic
7. best late summer table arrangement using elements of fruit, flower and vegetable
You may enter as many of the categories as you like. One entry per category per person.
