#ShopeeGivesBack to Contribute RM100,000 Worth of Cash and In-Kind Donations to Flood Victims with its Flood Relief Fund

KUALA LUMPUR, 2 DECEMBER 2022 - #ShopeeGivesBack is once again running its Flood Relief Fund, to galvanise community resources towards emergency aid for underserved families in various states across Malaysia.

On 28 November, Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued warnings of continuous rain at alert level in the states of Terengganu, Kelantan, Pahang and Sabah, with signs of rain and thunderstorm expected to happen for more than six hours during the period.

This year, users can contribute to those in need by donating a minimum of RM1 to the cause  via the #ShopeeGivesBack store and Donation Entrance. #ShopeeGivesBack will be partnering with Shopee Supermarket to support the flood relief initiatives of Malaysian Red Crescent Kuala Lumpur (MRCKL), Food Aid Foundation, and MyFundAction, by contributing RM100,000 worth of cash and in-kind donations to help flood victims.

MRCKL, most commonly known as the Bulan Sabit Merah Kuala Lumpur, dedicates its service to providing care and relief assistance to communities in need. The organisation aims to provide a wide range of activities and services from disaster response relief, health and welfare services to first aid and CPR training programs.

Since early November, Food Aid Foundation has been coordinating with local food suppliers to stock up on food items to fulfil emergency needs. Food Aid Foundation flood relief plans come in the form of Emergency Flood Aid and Post Flood Relief. The former provides ready-to-eat and cooked meals to flood victims in centres waiting for flood water to recede, while the latter supplies basic food items, hygiene packs and basic cooking facilities to families once they return to their home.

MyFundAction on the other hand has assisted over 3,600 families with their Flood Assistance in the past year and are looking to support another 400 families with the supports raised by the #ShopeeGivesBack Flood Relief Fund. MyFundAction will be providing flood victims with mobile clinics, psychological first aid, basic hygiene kit, along with food aids.

Kenneth Soh, Head of Marketing Campaigns at Shopee Malaysia said, “As the monsoon floods become more unpredictable, I believe it’s crucial for us to provide a helping hand to those in need. Be it in the form of emotional support, helping out in flood shelters or in the form of monetary donation, every little effort counts. Our Flood Relief campaign aims to unite Malaysians to join us and be a part of a greater cause.”

From today onwards, you can contribute to aiding those in need by donating from as low as RM1 to the Flood Relief Fund via the #ShopeeGivesBack store and Donation Entrance (applicable on Android only) on the Shopee app.
