Penang Sambal Seller Breaks 1M Sales Record on Shopee Live
Kedai Abang Syukor’s 24/7 Live Stream Boosts Local Jobs

KUALA LUMPUR, 28 December 2023 - Syukor Majid, the owner-founder of Kedai Abang Syukor, made over RM 1 Million selling sambal on Shopee Live for three months, and has not looked back. This Penang homegrown seller is not only known for his other brands such as Syukor Burger, Syukor Coffee, Abang Syukor Chicken and Meat Curry Powders, and premix beverages; but also for hosting one of Shopee Live’s most-watched streams during Shopee’s 11.11 Big Sale.

Now, he sells 1,000 to 2,000 bottles of sambal daily. His online store boasts 18 flavours, and his best-selling are: Sambal Merah Bilis Petai, Sambal Hijau Tempoyak Petai, and Sambal Hijau Bilis Jering.

"Sambal is the king of condiments in Malaysia," explains Syukor. "It’s ingrained in Malaysians to pair sambal with everything from rice to noodles; everyone loves a good sambal, and it's perfect for online sales—ready-to-eat and easy to post out."

Syukor, a seasoned businessman of 15 years, has embraced Shopee Live in favour of other instant messaging and social media platforms as the new marketing frontier. "Initially, I just wanted to get my products out there to a new audience. However, I quickly caught on to Shopee Live’s true potential, and went all in, concentrating my marketing and sales efforts on this platform."

His dedication paid off big time. Syukor became one of Shopee Live's top sellers, racking up a whopping 155 hours of airtime per week. What began as a two-hour experiment turned into a 24/7 live streaming marathon. He and his team of seven hosts took turns manning the virtual shop, ensuring they were there for customers around the clock. This 24/7 approach was like having a convenience store that never closed, giving Syukor a huge advantage over his brick-and-mortar competitors.

A self-made influencer, Syukor effortlessly converts his 600,000+ social media fans into loyal Shopee Live customers. He guides them through a seamless purchase journey across Shopee's user-friendly interface so they purchase their favourite sambal in just a few clicks. Syukor's seven hosts also mirror his energetic personality, fostering community engagement with humour, singing, and casual chit-chat.

Syukor credits Shopee’s vouchers as affordable game-changers in driving his business growth. "Shopee vouchers are especially powerful during double-digit sales campaigns," he explains, recalling a remarkable 600% sales boost thanks to these strategic discounts.

"Shopee is my launchpad for sambal expansion, of course. Within the next few months, I'm aiming to launch three additional Shopee Live stores to meet rising customer demands," he remarked.

Syukor has big plans for his sambal factory: expansion and more jobs for the local community in Tasek Gelugor and beyond. He currently manages a team of 100 employees across food production and manufacturing, 31 in his sambal operations, and seven dedicated Shopee Live hosts. These jobs are bringing opportunities close to home, as most of the team lives locally.

"Shopee Live empowered me to grow my business, create jobs, and contribute to the community. Through live streaming, I've expanded my reach, reduced costs, and hired additional staff. While financial success is important, my ultimate goal is to give back to society,” added Syukor.
