Classes with Technology are Enjoyable for Students

by Jeremy Kingsolver

At Shelby high school, there are many elective classes that use technology. Shelby High School students are using technology in their classes to make learning fun and most of all are learning valuable skills to use in today's world. Teachers use audio and electronic versions of textbooks, videos, and the web for information. Most teachers use google classroom to hand out and collect assignments. But some elective classes use even more advanced technology.

Freshman, Evan Clarke, likes the farm simulation game in Ag Class. He said, “it's a simulation that shows you how to spend money, buy crops, plant seeds, and harvest crops. It teaches you how to manage your money and how to put it to use. It's really helpful. It helps you learn about farming.”

Journalism student Amara Bentley said journalism students use photography cameras, video-cameras, and lights in addition to learning software programs like Adobe Premiere Pro. Amara said,” learning photoshop and editing can be difficult.” Students James Knickerbocker and Brendan Clark both agree that the camera is a fun piece of equipment while Brendan finds that the editing software is his favorite.

Mrs.Hough teaches a unit about building Lego robotics and programming to her junior high computer classes. Mrs. Hough started teaching Lego robotics with EV3 kits and is now transitioning to new SPIKE kits. Hough said,” Students learn practical coding applications, and basic engineering by assembling their robotics projects. In addition, they are able to explore their creative abilities and get excited about trying something new.” In addition, she said students “get excited about doing something that isn't just "school work."

students at Shelby High School agree that classes that integrate technology into their learning are more enjoyable.
